The GCTS Dynamic Hollow Cylinder Systems were designed to perform advanced tests on hollow, cylindrical soil specimens. These systems allow the operator to control the pressure inside the specimen, the pressure outside the specimen, and the torsional load on the top of the specimen. Each of these stresses can be independently controlled and the advanced software and hardware allows for complete testing automation. 


The GCTS Dynamic Hollow Cylinder Systems feature:


  • Closed-loop digital servo control
  • Torsional load capacity of 225 N-m
  • Axial load capacity of 10 kN at up to 50 Hz
  • Confining, back/pore, and internal pressure capacity of 1000 kPa
  • Non-contacting deformation sensors with a ± 2.5 mm range
  • Specimen diameters of 100 mm on the outside and 63.5 mm on the inside
  • Angular displacement up to ±25° (±40° system optional)
  • Options to perform resonant column tests, ultrasonic platens, temperature control system, unsaturated soils system

The GCTS Large Scale Hollow Cylinder Testing Systems are capable of performing advanced tests on large, hollow soil specimens. These systems are able to simulate most field stress and strain paths and can perform both static and dynamic tests. This allows for other tests to be performed with these systems, including liquefaction, plane strain, simple shear, dynamic shear strength, and shear modulus.
